my family, photographed by yan palmer.

when i first stumbled upon yan's work, my jaw dropped.  it wasn't just that she was photographing incredible beautiful people, or that every single shot of hers was filled with emotion that i couldn't put words to, or that she was doing it all on film...yep film, it was that i felt something.  something i didn't even know about.

my personal journey in photography was relatively new, so to see her work was that feeling of 'way out of my league!'.  still way out of my league, but i did get to attend a workshop with yan last fall.  she is human just like the rest of us, and real, and sweet and something about her just draws you in.  the worskshop was a game changer for sure.

shortly after that, i saw her post she was headed this way...wisconsin in fact!  and when i contacted her to confirm, yep...she was coming to us!  i think i did some quick negotiating with my significant other and booked within minutes.   long story short, yan hung out with us one day this summer.  it was just what i had imagined...chill, fun, way too short and well, just pretty much my dream summer night.  i am completely oversharing, but you know what...i can't help it.  this is us.  a summer night in july.  thank you yan for every one of these images.

lastly, this all wouldn't be nearly as awesome without all my favorite people.  they made these images exactly what i hoped for by just being them.

maria.

i have known maria for several years - she is one of my daughters best friends and is near and dear to my heart. i am a big believer that the more comfortable the photographer and client are with each other the stronger the image, BUT this girl has the confidence too.  she is assure of herself yet in the sweetest and gentlest way that you could just squeeze her up.  these images were all her!

a day with cash + his crew.

ok guys, here is the deal.  i am in love with these family film sessions and i am quite honored by the amount of interest i have received.  thank you.  thank YOU! please, if you are interested in having me follow your family around for a few hours documenting you being you, contact me.  i am so excited to be created films for others!

so lets face it, cash stole the show here.  for one, he is the most handsome guy around - that hair (!!!) and for two, he is at the perfect age.  swinging, jumping, smiling, moving, observing and all done so four year old like.  desi, his little brother, well he was as sweet as they come.  he rolled right along with all the activities, never once showed an ounce of tired yet squeezed in a cat nap on our way to the park - that boy is something else!  his poor mama wasn't sure if she should reschedule or not, due to him having a bug bite reaction around his eye, but she went with it and said 'it's our story...and he's still the cutest!' which is exactly how i feel too.  it is YOUR story.  and here is the rogers story.

in the streets of the third ward.

this was right before school went back into session.  the weather was cooperative, the kids were their cute + silly selves, and mom and dad were celebrating a night out as a family before the school routine rolled back into place.

the mabbotts.

i have been creating tiny films of my family for almost a year now.  you can check them out here!  i have fallen in love with the movement and the story they each tell of our life during that time.  recently i had a few requests from families to do this for them.  although i knew i could create this for us over a month time span, i wasn't sure if i was going to pull it off for a 1/2 day together.

so here is my first attempt.  this adorable family let me hang out with them on one of their favorite days of the summer.  they biked, flew kites, took a paddle boat ride, skipped the flattest rocks around and ended with a hot fudge sundae - but i will let you see for yourself.

i am looking for a few families to allow me to document them in a little film before the end of the year.  you simple go do your thing with your family and i follow along...it is easy!  so if this is something you'd LOVE to have, let's chat!  shoot me an email and we can go over all the details.
